Build moving parts that lift, push, pull, or open using levers.
Learners build
A moving creature or character powered by mechanical linkages that learners build themselves.
Learners start by joining two bars with a pivot, then build four linkages: reverse motion, bell crank, parallel motion, and scissor.
From there, they plan a creature or machine on a design sheet, test it in paper, and build a final version that hides the linkage inside a character or story. It connects art and design, English language arts, and science and engineering.
Educator Resources
Student-facing slides introduce the concepts, guide the activity, and help learners reflect on what changed. Educator materials support setup, pacing, discussion, and extensions so this can work in classrooms, libraries, homeschool groups, clubs, or makerspaces.
