Learners build

A ball maze of ramps and stoppers that learners design backward from the finish.

Learners start by standing the board on a cardboard kickstand, placing the hoop at the bottom, and reverse engineering the path by adding ramps from the finish back to the start.

From there, they test after each ramp, adjust angles, and add stoppers until three ramps send the ball into the hoop, then link boards with partners so one maze feeds the next. It connects English language arts, math, and science and engineering.

Activity Time 30-45 min
Prep Time 5-10 min
Mazes is spicy for Pre-K, medium for kindergarten and 1st grade, and mild from 2nd through 8th grade.

Educator Resources

Student-facing slides introduce the concepts, guide the activity, and help learners reflect on what changed. Educator materials support setup, pacing, discussion, and extensions so this can work in classrooms, libraries, homeschool groups, clubs, or makerspaces.
